Client

The requesting program or user in a client/server relationship. The computer handling the request and sending back the HTML file is a server.

High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA)

A packet-based mobile telephony protocol used in 3G UMTS radio networks to increase data capacity and speed up transfer rates. HSDPA, which evolved from the WCDMA standard, provides download speeds at least five times faster than earlier versions, allowing users of HSDPA networks a broader selection of video and music downloads.

Infrared (I)

Refers to energy in the region of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum at wavelengths longer than those of visible light, but shorter than those of radio waves. Correspondingly, the frequencies of IR are higher than those of microwaves, but lower than those of visible light.

Streaming Server

A host (computer or other computerised system) capable of storing large quantities of video related content and serving it (sending it) upon request over a network to receiving computers.

Streaming Video

Content sent in compressed form over the network and displayed by the viewer in real time. With streaming video a user does not have to wait to download a file to play it. Instead, the media is sent in a continuous stream and is played as it arrives.

Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service (UMTS)

A third-generation (3G) broadband, packet-based transmission of text, digitized voice, video, and multimedia at data rates up to 2 megabits per second (Mbps). UMTS offers a consistent set of services to mobile computer and phone users, no matter where they are located in the world.
