Live video information makes the difference between hearing about events as they unfold and seeing what’s going on for yourself.

Redeployable CCTV powered by Vemotion makes it possible to transmit quality real time live video efficiently over unmanaged networks, allowing visual coverage from many more locations than fixed CCTV solutions.

Vemotion’s solution allows real time video capture and delivery using low bandwidth, ensuring video traffic is delivered reliably, even under the most challenging network conditions.

Vemotion can be used to improve visibility within overt and covert surveillance operations. The encoder can be loaded onto a vehicle borne or body-worn unit or as an Android Smartphone application.

It can be delivered as a robust, standalone, remotely deployable unit and provides the ability to beam back images to an existing central control room over public GSM networks.

Real time video images can then be distributed to key personnel via their existing mobile phones or PDAs, to other control rooms across the region, the country or even around the world. Vemotion is active in a wide range of security applications:

Crowd Monitoring and Control: mobile deployment to cover points of heavy footfall or crowd movement.

Overt and covert surveillance: swiftly deployable urban and rural video coverage with continuous operation by foot, vehicle, over land, maritime and airborne operations.

Border surveillance and immigration control: rapid and easily deployable monitoring sites of crossings and remote transit routes.

Environmental monitoring and protection of rare breeds: Flood control, fly-tipping and remote coverage of wildlife sites and movement.

Rapid route clearance: Tour de France and Olympic Flame routes.

Local Authorities: Direct feed CCTV without fixed infrastructure. Re-deployable assets for a cost-effective solution.

Homeland Security: Live video surveillance from the man or patrol vehicle. Direct feed to the command centre. Counter-Terrorist, Critical National Infrastructure and Crisis Management applications.

Private Security Firms: Direct video feed to and from security patrols. Heightened operator security and more effective response.

Defence: Forward Operating Base (FOB), perimeter surveillance, live video connectivity to local patrols. UAV video capability.

In-Vehicle: Remote visibility of a pursuit vehicle. Evidential record of proceedings in real-time.

Local Authorities

Vemotion can provide cost effective CCTV coverage in outlying areas or more central areas not adequately covered by the existing fixed camera networks. Vemotion can be used for remote monitoring for antisocial behaviour such as fly tipping, and as a highly cost-efficient alternative solution to fixed position cameras in outlying locations.

Local Councils often have good CCTV coverage in areas easily served by fixed location cameras, typically in urban areas. However, the costs involved in connecting cameras in outlying and remote areas back to the central control room has hitherto precluded their use.

Vemotion enables live video feeds from cameras in outlying and remote areas to be transmitted over standard GSM mobile networks back to the Authority’s CCTV control room, making this a viable solution.

Example Scenario 1

In today’s economic climate with reduced budgets, it is important to ‘spend to save’. The high cost of traditional wired and fibre connections makes deployment of new, or upkeep of existing cameras difficult. The unseen problem in many large organisations is ‘whose budget is it anyway?’, a question which only normally gets visibility at strategic management levels. Departmental projects can seem to be cost savers if the comparative capital costs appear low. But the real cost of ownership is only felt when the operating costs are analysed – and these are often paid out of another budget or financial stream and reconciled at the end of the year. With Vemotion’s system, not only are capital costs reduced but operating costs are lower than fixed infrastructure costs and also capable of being managed through use of the reduced bandwidth option for live video. [Not as much an example as a sales pitch/re-order and format]

Example Scenario 2

Traffic Flow Management can be greatly improved through use of Vemotion enabled cameras that can be swiftly deployed without the need for fixed infrastructure. For example, in London, a large transport and highways organisation deploy Vemotion-enabled vehicles to roadside maintenance and highways projects and the live video feed gives real time coverage of traffic flows, allowing potential problems to be solved rapidly and cost effectively.

Example Scenario 3

Crowd Control is especially difficult when there is an unexpectedly heavy footfall in areas, or at times where there is no video coverage. Besides the obvious health and safety concerns, public security and crime prevention benefit from the rapid and cost effective deployment of live video capability which can be present for the duration of the problem and then withdrawn or re-deployed to another incident. ‘Leedswatch’ [link/explanation of Leedswatch] is one such solution, enabling the public safety monitoring of football crowds, planned pop festivals in semi-rural locations and planned / unplanned public demonstrations.

Homeland Security

Vemotion can play a central role in the monitoring of public gatherings and sporting events in areas – such as parks and football grounds – where temporary and flexible monitoring provides improved data for crowd control and improves security decision making.

A voice message conveys less information and takes longer to explain details than a moving picture. With Vemotion, CCTV cameras can be rapidly deployed to key locations, offering coverage that would not otherwise be possible and, as situations change or targets move, so too can Vemotion – maintaining coverage and relaying accurate and timely information. This allows key command personnel to decide on additional resource requirements or an appropriate response to rapidly changing situations.

Vemotion can be located within a vehicle to stream video back to a central control room, giving a live view of what’s happening. Operators on the same Vemotion system can also send back streamed video to the control room from their body-worn solutions and viewing can be switched to allow continuous coverage of a target – even if it becomes mobile.

Deployable units can be remotely operated with full Pan, Tilt and Zoom (PTZ) control, improving safety for field operatives.

Example Scenario 1

A covert operational team take over a Safe House in an urban environment and need to deploy both a protective perimeter video screen and direct video observation of selective targets. Deploying a VB-40 (PC platform) allows up to 16 Analogue and/or IP cameras to be easily deployed from a single location using only the domestic electricity supply.

Example Scenario 2

A co-ordinated surveillance operation using body-worn, vehicle and direct feed CCTV needs to allow continual coverage of a number of targets across a variable geographical area. Equipped with vehicle mounted VB-30 units, body-worn and pre-placed static VB-20 units and linking in to direct feed CCTV through VB-40 units, the team can maintain coverage no matter where and how the targets move.

Example Scenario 3

Covert coverage is needed on an unobtrusive platform both for target acquisition and viewing. Utilising the VB-10 Android smartphone platform, covert teams can get up close and personal, sharing their live video output with other team members and both Central and Operational Control Centres simultaneously.

Private Security Firms

Vemotion is suitable for use by security guards in shopping centres, allowing them to be mobile and have access to feeds from security cameras to improve surveillance and ensure appropriate and effective corrective action can be taken.

The Vemotion VB-10 mobile app provides a cost effective solution enabling security guards on patrol to use the camera on a smartphone to stream live video images back to their CCTV control room.

Staff in the control room, on the other hand, are able to ‘drop’ live video feeds directly onto the mobile handset of selected guards to inform them of incidents taking place.

Example Scenario 1

Co-ordinated site surveillance and monitoring, enabling direct feed CCTVs, mobile vehicle and foot patrols to stream live video pictures to a central control room and also other team members. Vemotion allows advance warning to response teams of the real picture at the scene of a disturbance or break in allowing faster reactions to improve security and increase efficiency. [Not an example at the moment – needs re-ordering. Consider perhaps swapping with above paragraph, and making the shopping centres thing an example]

Example Scenario 2

A combination of Vemotion’s VB-30 and VB-10 capabilities can improve your Cash in Transit protective capability for high value cargo. The VB-30 allows four way concurrent camera monitoring offering all round situational awareness of a vehicle to the command centre, the internal operative/driver and, via the VB-10 smartphone application, to the pedestrian operative. This allows live – and recordable – video coverage of the most vulnerable ‘over the pavement’ section of any collection or drop-off, to increase security and offer greater operator safety.

Example Scenario 3

If the situation changes or only a temporary surveillance capability is required, deploy a higher level of surveillance cameras without the need for additional fixed infrastructure. [Consider adding in a literal example – this is more like a sales point currently].

What do you want from a field deployable live video system? Rapid deployment, easy and intuitive operation, alarm triggered, immediate visibility of approaching threats, robust and lightweight package, cost effective, uses existing communications bearers, record and snapshot capability.

We can do that with both our VB-20 (body-worn) and VB-30 (vehicle-mounted) products.

Vemotion’s capability can be deployed across all three tactical environments (land, sea and air) to offer live video surveillance for battlefield monitoring. Vemotion’s encoders can deliver a live video (780 x 144 pixel resolution) picture over tactical radio or satellite communication capabilities that offers upwards from a minimum of 5 kilobits per second (kbps) at 1 frame per second (fps) up to 300 kbps at 25 fps. Higher resolutions and higher frame rates can be supported dependent on the available bandwidth and platform processing power.

Example Scenario 1

A Forward Operating Base with a ring of up to 8 video cameras on likely approach routes or perimeter blind spots covered by a single VB-30.

Example Scenario 2

A Forward Observation Point with a single video camera and VB-20 linked to remote ground sensor, break beam, pressure pad or contact breaker on a pathway or gate to give early warning of unexpected movement.

Example Scenario 3

A coastal maritime patrol boat shows a live video to an onshore or shipborne command centre of the contents, crew and passengers on a suspicious boat, receiving direct authorisation for response activities.

Vemotion Encoders can be located within a vehicle to stream video back to a central control room, giving a live view of what’s happening in or around the vehicle. The video stream can be activated on command from the vehicle cab, or from the control centre, or by triggered alarm. Remote coverage allows active remote surveillance of a vehicle and its contents whilst the driver is away from the vehicle, or remote visibility of a vehicle pursuit.
